Quality of Life: Coffee and Orange Juice.

Did you ever notice how coffee and orange juice just go together?

In France, they eat the cheese at the end of the meal, with wine.  They have four to six different cheeses, and everybody takes a dab of each, with a scrap of bread.  (I mean a scrap, not a great big honkin' hunk.)  You take a bite of cheese, a sip of wine, and experience the harmony of flavors bursting through your soul, while watching the sun filter through the leaves of the tillul tree, and arguing about politics.

Anyway.

Coffee and orange juice produce similar harmonies.  The spicy nuttiness of the coffee is perfectly complemented by the sweet astringency of the orange.  I recommend putting a mug of excellent coffee, a pitcher of cream, and a glass of orange juice on your table every morning, wherever you happen to be.  Take a sip of one, stop. Take a sip of the other, stop.

This is life.  You're here, now.

  1. Are you sure that coffee and orange juice go well together? They both seem rather acidic to me and somehow don't agree with my stomach when consumed together. Maybe it is just me!?

  2. No, it's not just you. Coffee needs buffering. I use plenty of half-and-half or milk, and drink it with something starchy. Also, only in the mornings; also, not very much of it. Two cups a day is the max.

  3. Mix in some banana or mango to that OJ and you've got a well-buffered juice that won't eat your stomach.
